SPI, the African distributor for utility software products and services to the open systems segment of the IT industry, today announced that USA-based Help/Systems, a world leader in systems management solutions, had acquired UK-based Open Systems Management (OSM), the developer of software utilities such as COSbatch and COSprint.
“This deal is a very positive one for the users of OSM's software products, as it strengthens the development capabilities of the combined entity, which in turn will mean the provision of extended and new capabilities to the current product ranges,” commented Chris Anderson, Managing Director of SPI, the sub-Saharan distributor for OSM.
“Help/Systems themselves introduced Skybot Scheduler last year, an enterprise job scheduling application for Windows, Unix and Linux, which brings to the market a faster deployment and lower cost of ownership than their previous offerings.
“By merging the development paths of the two organisations, the enlarged company can retain a leading-edge technology and provide over 10 years of customer input to the functionality of their solutions, concluded Anderson. “In addition, this deal potentially opens up new opportunities for SPI itself.”
Help/Systems, originally founded in 1982, is a world leader in the provision of software solutions for IBM Power Systems servers, as well as software solutions for the Windows, Unix and Linux environments. It includes companies such as 3M, Coca-Cola Enterprises, Honda, HSBC and Pfizer among its extensive client base.
