Spescom DataVoice, the voice transaction management operation of multinational technology innovator, Spescom, has won a R10 million sub-contract with Alcom Matomo to provide an integrated voice recording solution for police services in Gauteng.
The deal forms part of the main tender won by Alcom Matomo, a BEE arm of the Altech Group, for the supply of the latest Motorola terrestrial trunk radio system to the South African Police Service. The state-of-the-art digital radio communication network will replace the current analogue radio system and Spescom DataVoice will provide the voice recording technology to support the Motorola Tetra radio system.
This world-first recording solution will be deployed for the SAPS radio communications network throughout the province.
"This follows on the tremendous success of our previous projects with Alcom and Motorola for the South African Police Service and the City of Cape Town in the Western Cape," says Andrew Condon, Commercial Director at Spescom DataVoice.
"Gauteng is the busiest SAPS network with about 26 000 users and a message volume that can reach 500 000 per day.
"Recording of all communication between the police and the public is mission-critical and, although many of these are very brief radio messages, SAPS depends on reliable archiving of all its communications, including telephony, that can be accessed for scenario reconstruction after the event. DataVoice technology provides the cornerstone of logging and archiving these calls in a way that is easily accessed for searching from a central repository."
All communications are recorded, from the initial telephone call to the many radio messages generated when responding to a situation.
Recordings for Gauteng are made from six remote sites that handle telephony and a large number of base stations that are part of the radio network.
"As certified Motorola partners, the reliable DataVoice Orion Professional voice recording solution integrates seamlessly with the Motorola Tetra digital radio system to provide SAPS Gauteng with a secure archive which can be easily accessed to audit the activities that took place in any event or situation. As with other public safety services in the rest of the world, this plays a key role in quality assurance and service delivery," concludes Condon.
