Global IT security provider Sonicwall has appointed Dubai-based IT distributor Almasa to channel e-mail security and content management solutions across the Middle East and the North Africa region.

This is according to Shahnawaz Sheikh, regional manager of Sonicwall`s Middle East and Africa (MEA) region. He notes the partnership is a good move in terms of extending Sonicwall`s reach in a lucrative market.

"With Almasa`s coverage across the region, Sonicwall will have greater access to its reseller partners," says Sheikh.

Almasa will be responsible for Sonicwall`s e-mail security appliances and software solutions, including anti-virus, anti-spam, anti-phishing, content filtering, and policy management products, says Sheikh. Almasa will also be distributing Sonicwall`s content management solutions, a set of software solutions which continually update themselves in order to protect business`s content space from Internet threats.

Almasa, he adds, has experience in selling e-mail security to large accounts, which will help Sonicwall up its stakes in the region.

Most lucrative markets

According to Sheikh, Sonicwall sees Egypt, Nigeria, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and SA as the most lucrative markets in the greater MEA market. "We have an in-country presence through local distributors and partners in every major market of Africa except Egypt." Sheikh notes the company is actively searching an in-country distributor in Egypt.

Sonicwall has distributors in Morocco, Kenya and Tanzania and SA, he says.

"Our marketing strategy and partner recruitment programme are instrumental in strengthening and building the MEA markets."

Sheikh says the company has a major multi-location install base in every vertical segment of the market in MEA. He notes that on a global basis Sonicwall has already has deployed over 800 000 units in various network scenarios which is continually growing.

According to statistics recorded in the first quarter of 2006, Sonicwall reported a $39.8 million quarterly revenue, showing a 25% increase from the first quarter of 2005, leaving Sonicwall leading in the unified threat management security appliances market worldwide, he adds.
