Compu-Clearing, which provides IT services and products to the customs clearing and freight forwarding industries, grew first half revenue 8%, to R36 million.

The group says its top line gains were thanks to a 9% gain in its software rental segment and a 25% improvement in its CargoWise One segment in the six months to December. CargoWise is making progress and gaining clients, although this is off a small base, says Compu-Clearing.

CargoWise is a single-platform software solution that provides improved integration, automation and communication with the supply chain, says its Web site. The two companies entered into a joint venture in 2010.

"The CargoWise One segment continues to grow, with further implementations expected to go live in the second half of the 2014 financial year, which will drive further growth within the segment," says the listed company in its results announcement.

Compu-Clearing also started a new project during the half year. The first phase of its new flagship product, CompuSolutions Diamond, "has already met with an enthusiastic response", it says.

CompuSolutions Diamond works on Java Enterprise Edition and languages such as Scala, which it uses for speciality modules. The company has spent R1.2 million on the project and expects revenue to flow in the second half.

Compu-Clearing improved operating profit 35% due to "reasonable revenue growth combined with excellent operating costs control". Its cash generated by operations gained 26%, to R9.6 million.

Compu-Clearing's core revenue is transaction-based and directly linked to customer import and export volumes, it explains.
