Software Futures acquires Infomet

Software Futures has acquired 100% of Infomet, one of South Africa`s longest established and most respected IT architecture companies, in exchange for an undisclosed amount in cash and shares.

In terms of the deal, Infomet MD Pieter Viljoen joins the Software Futures management team and his core team are absorbed into Software Futures` business units, notably the software factory operation, FutureBase. Aletha Ling, MD of Software Futures Group, says this is a strategic acquisition to boost its software factory capability in response to market demand.

Infomet was established 12 years ago as a company specialising in the creation of information architectures and methodologies. It was then years ahead of its time, says Viljoen. It was subsequently bought by ISG. On IBM`s return to South Africa, he took his company out of the group and spent three years in the US, applying the Infomet principles to that market. On returning to South Africa last year, he has rebuilt Infomet into a consulting, application development and full delivery capability company, specialising in the object-oriented paradigm.

"Pieter and his team bring great depth to this key area in our business," says Ling. "We value the team for their depth of knowledge and the structure and skills they bring to the further formalisation of our software factory environment. Infomet has world-class capability in these areas, which matches our group`s capabilities and philosophies."

Some of the key benefits Infomet brings to Software Futures are: an integrated meta model, a formal base for application development, indepth problem-solving capability, acceleration in every aspect of application development and a scheme for managing and solving complex problems.

"Our acquisition of Infomet is one more step on our path to creating a software factory capability for the world market," adds Ling.
