SMS aids business

Netpreneur Host has partnered with Mobile SMS Marketing to provide a service that will allow users to communicate with their customers through SMS, according to PR Web.

Customers send a company's unique text string to the phone number provided by Mobile SMS Marketing, and they get added to that company's list. The company then sends out special offers and updates.

"This new service allows businesses to quickly build large lists of opt-in cellphone users, which provides a captive audience of people with whom businesses can build deeper, more intimate relationships than with traditional marketing," says Netpreneur Host CEO Daniel J Briere.

An SMS a day...

iPLATO has developed a new SMS service which provides Britons travelling abroad with free travel health information regarding malaria, says Medical News Today.

The service allows travellers to text in the name of their destination country to receive relevant information about the malaria prevalence in that country.

Once a traveller has been informed about the level of malaria risk at the specific destination, he/she will be encouraged to contact a healthcare professional for expert advice on protection. Travellers using the service are charged their standard operator rates and the service is available over all networks.

iPhone not to blame

EDGE and 3G services were down for many iPhone users across the US on Monday, reports MacWorld.

The AT&T's wireless data network was down primarily in the West and Midwest. According to its spokesman, Warner May, AT&T had isolated the problem and was still working on it.

Several different online forums have seen iPhone users complaining of having trouble using the EDGE network. May added the iPhone itself was not the cause as users of other phones were also affected.
