SMC sales at record high

Demands for low-cost networking products are driving sales of SMC Networks` EZLine range of cards, hubs and switches to reach an all time high.

That`s according to Lloyd Wood, SMC product manager at local SMC distributor, LAN Design. While not in a position to reveal actual results, Wood is confident figures will remain high for the rest of the financial year.

Wood is of the opinion that the current economic crisis would not put a spanner in the wheels of SMC`s success.

"I believe that with the rand losing its value against the dollar there is a good chance that the demand for cost-effective, quality networking products will increase in the small-to-medium enterprise (SME) market.

"Bearing this in mind the EZLine range should find a home with even the most budget conscious purchaser."

Additional factors responsible for this success include SMC SA`s and LAN Design`s concerted effort to focus on their target market.

"Our account managers and telesales departments have both been proactive in getting the SMC product to market," he says.

Greg Perkins, country manager for the local SMC office, says the low pricing of the EZ Line range has played a major role in making switching affordable for desktop users - a target market which usually chooses hubs to meet its network needs.
