Smartphone gets optical mouse

AT&T and Samsung Telecommunications America have released the Samsung Epix, a new smartphone featuring both an advanced touch-screen and new optical mouse technology that is powered by AT&T's 3G network and the Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional operating system, says Market Watch.

The Epix, which is available exclusively to AT&T customers in the US, provides users with a choice of ways to navigate its touch-screen, including the first implementation of optical mouse technology on a phone sold in the US.

The optical mouse is located in the centre of the device between the right and left soft keys. Users navigate the mouse by sweeping a finger over it.

Symbian show highlights innovations

The annual Symbian Smartphone Show, to be held this month in London, will showcase feature-rich and intelligent smartphones, says Symbian One.

Wireless systems integration and converged platform opportunities are expected to be demonstrated.

This year's show will track important trends and issues associated with the mobile computing industry, which includes the Symbian operating system platform.

Microsoft hosts unified communications service

BroadSoft and Microsoft are hosting a unified communications service for businesses, reports Network World.

The unified communications platform includes options for instant messaging, e-mail, phone and video.

The platform integrates communications features with business process software, including CRM, accounting and ERP, and is built on Microsoft's Hosted Messaging and Collaboration Version 4.5 and integrated with BroadSoft's BroadWorks business telephony platform.
