Skype ends Digium support
Voice over Internet protocol (VOIP) giant, Skype has terminated its partnership with Digium, effectively killing Skype for Asterisk, which integrated the VOIP service with the open-source telephony platform, reports eWeek.
Two weeks after Microsoft said it would acquire Skype, the VOIP company began cutting its ties with the open-source world. Asterisk was the first partner cut loose.
PC World states Skype for Asterisk sales and activations will cease on 26 July, according to Digium. Skype has made assurances that it will continue to support and maintain the software for a period of two years thereafter.
Microsoft revealed its intent to acquire Skype for $8.5 billion earlier this month, says CRN.
The transaction is expected to close within a year, but at the time of the announcement, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said repeatedly that Microsoft would “continue to invest in Skype on non-Microsoft client platforms.”
