Cellphone Safety, a Web site aimed at helping parents understand how to keep their children safe on their mobile phones, has been introduced.
The site, developed by local Web developer Laurence Seberini, offers information that helps parents to be savvy to children's mobile usage in order to avoid possible dangers.
It features articles that guide parents through cellphone addiction - how to spot it and what steps they can take to manage it.
It offers six practical safety guidelines that help parents manage the problem of cellphone stalkers.
“The main aim is to help families embrace the positive aspects of technology while giving them the information they need to avoid unnecessary harm to children,” says Seberini.
He explains that he came up with the idea because cellphones are “an inescapable fact of life and are indispensable communication tools for today's children”.
They also offer stressed-out parents a way to stay in contact with their offspring in what seems to be an increasingly dangerous world, he adds.
However, he notes that cellphones can represent a safety risk, providing access to inappropriate content and a way for adult stalkers to prey on inexperienced children. Thus, he says, the site aims to help parents understand how to use the existing technology to protect their kids.
The site mainly uses social networks like Twitter to disseminate its information and Seberini says he also gives talks on cellphone safety to schools and parent groups.
