Eden Island in the Seychelles (www.edenisland.sc)is a residential marina development, located on a reclaimed island just a few hundred metres from Mah'e, Seychelles' main island. Measuring over 56 hectares in size, Eden Island consists of a range of exclusive homes built in the creole vernacular architectural style and sold on freehold title.
Each home can be accessed via more than 16 hectares of private waterways and a range of one to three-bedroom apartments, duplex maisons, and two to six-bedroom luxury villas are available. The development also includes a retail centre as well as various commercial buildings in its public area.
While maintaining a resort and village atmosphere, the development has adopted cutting-edge technology in order to deliver current and future services to its residents, home owners and commercial tenants. In this vein, it was critical that a reliable and flexible communications technology be procured for the internal intercom and VOIP communications systems.
Tony Leca, CEO of Ethnic Technologies, a subsidiary of the Computer Universe Group, and electronics consulting engineers to the Eden Island Project, opted to contact Comtel to explore the installation of its Altrix System.
“Comtel has delivered Altrix with excellent uptime and real value for money on a number of other Cape Town-based hospitality projects. After exploring the local Seychelles offerings, as well as a few other VOIP providers in South Africa as suitable suppliers, Comtel shone as the company with the 'bullet proof' technology that suits our future connectivity requirements for the project, and doesn't break the client's budget either," says Leca.
The Altrix system, which includes a comprehensive telecommunications billing engine, is based on modular architecture that allows the cost-effective expansion of various products and services like telephone lines, wireless Internet, ADSL/DSL lines, wireless and cabled hotspots, biometrics, intercoms and access control, and all this built on a single hardware platform.
Leca continues: "The Altrix system suits the specific requirements of this type of large scale environment, and the individual demands by a variety of clientele on the island. Comtel is due to roll out its solution in February this year."
CEO of Comtel, Dave Couves, had this to say: “We are very excited about this project because Eden Island is a beautiful location, a high profile destination and an international showcase for Altrix. Our team has put in a lot of effort, having installed a number of similar solutions in our own back yard over the past five years, and this is now being recognised.”
