Telkom acting CEO Reuben September has reshuffled the portfolios of his senior management team. He also filled some key empty seats around his executive table.
From 1 November, September will be assisted by a chief of finance, chief of operations, chief of global operations and subsidiaries, chief of human resources, chief of strategy and a chief of corporate governance.
September says the revision best matches the current business needs of Telkom. The new structure will facilitate faster decision-making within Telkom and more effective execution, as well as the smoother integration of its various operating entities. It will also allow Telkom to better serve multinationals and wholesale customers through the most appropriate channels.
September also appointed Motlatsi Nzeku as chief of operations; Thami Msimango returns as chief of global operations and subsidiaries; Charlotte Mokoena as chief of human resources; and Ouma Rasethaba as chief of corporate governance. Deon Fredericks will act in the position of chief of finance, while Naas Fourie will be acting chief of strategy.
Fredericks was appointed acting chief of finance last week, after CFO Kaushik Patel suddenly resigned to take up a similar position with a parastatal. At the time, he was Telkom`s last remaining permanent senior executive, a situation September has now remedied.
Patel`s resignation was clouded by reports that the company is about to undergo a preliminary investigation by the Financial Services Board for insider trading. Telkom has said the timing of the two events is unfortunate, but there is no link.
