There is an increasing need to facilitate regional security, mobility and market access through secure identification or documentation in Africa, according to industry experts, said 3M.
Four security experts from the company were featured speakers during the "Facilitating Regional Security in Africa" workshop last week at the Corporate Council on Africa (CCA) 2007 US Africa Business Summit.
During the workshop, attendees were able to gain knowledge of global best practice and technologies, and benefit from information on capacity-building for secure identification and efficient cross-border programmes, explained 3M.
This workshop also explored opportunities in such programmes for companies involved in business-to-government, and business-to-business activities.
By 2010, the International Civil Aviation Organisation will require machine-readable passports of all travellers entering member airports, the company said.
Hosted every two years, this was CCA`s sixth summit, and the first to be held in Africa. Entitled "Africa: Entering the Door to Opportunities", the summit provided a forum for some of the world`s global business leaders to discuss trade and investment opportunities in Africa. They also explored best practices, and how best to increase trade and investment in ways that will help engender sustainable growth on the continent, said 3M.
The summit featured business trade missions led by a diverse pool of US organisations to several African nations. Summit delegates had an opportunity to explore business prospects in an additional African country, immediately following the summit in Cape Town. Each trade mission featured a financing expert.
