School may lease tablets to students
The Aberdeen City Council, in Scotland, is proposing that Kingswells Primary School leases tablets to students, but at the outright cost of £444, or £13 a week for a three-year period, TabTimes reports.
The announcement has caused some parents and councillors to express concern over the affordability of the tablet, and a meeting was due to be held on a potential pilot last week.
An Aberdeen City Council spokesman said: "We are looking at the role of technology in learning and have a range of pilot projects across the city,” BBC notes.
"As part of that work, we are looking at a range of devices and how to use mobile technology that can be utilised in classrooms to enhance education delivery.
"We are looking at the suitability of a number of devices, including smartphones, handheld devices and tablets, across a range of platforms and software providers."
