Scania chooses Dimension Data for network replacement

Dimension Data installs Cisco platform

Dimension Data, a global IT solutions and services provider, has been commissioned by Scania Infomate to replace the core network at Scania`s head office in S"odert"alje, Sweden.

Dimension Data`s technical expertise and global supply model was a key factor in Scania Infomate deciding to work with Dimension Data.

Global standardisation and lower running costs were the primary motivation behind Scania`s decision to replace its entire existing core network with a Cisco-based network platform.

The project commenced a year ago and is expected to be completed by the end of 2006. Over the course of the year, Dimension Data will gradually replace existing products with a solution based on Cisco products.

"Due to the maxed-out capacity and age of our existing network, we chose to modernise and go the Cisco route. Dimension Data`s delivery of a Cisco-based platform also makes it easier for us to connect our Swedish operations with Scania`s global infrastructure, which in many locations is also Cisco-based," says Bo Palmblad, product manager at Scania Infomate.

The contract with Scania Infomate covers all companies within the Scania Group. Part of Scania Infomate`s aim is to standardise the global infrastructure of the company in order to reduce running costs and streamline Scania`s operations. By consolidating to Cisco, Scania expects to reduce global operating costs. Other important factors include the improved access to service and information the new system provides.

"Dimension Data is doing a good job meeting our global standardisation needs. They are a large global company just like we are. Dimension Data has an established presence in most places where we have operations. Furthermore, we have been pleased with Dimension Data`s performance in the past," says Palmblad.

Scania has previously hired Dimension Data to install communications equipment and associated services. Dimension Data has also assisted with network design and the replacement of important networks.

"It is gratifying that Scania has entrusted us to help them with this modernisation initiative. With the right technical expertise and the right global coverage we were able to prove that we are the best choice for meeting Scania Infomates needs. I am convinced that Scania Infomate will quickly see the benefits that a modern Cisco network has to offer, especially with regard to service, technical support and services during production, where Cisco together with Dimension Data have a strong supply model," says Petter Westerberg, Global Account Manager at Dimension Data.

Scania is a leading global manufacturer of heavy trucks, busses and industrial and marine motors.
