Samsung brings YouTube 3D to connected TVs
Samsung and YouTube have teamed up to deliver 3D content to connected TV users, reports Digital TV.
Samsung revealed at the IFA consumer electronics show in Germany that the two parties will update the YouTube app available on Samsung Smart TVs to make it capable of delivering 3D content.
According to HDTV Test, a Samsung spokesperson stated that the company is excited to be an exclusive partner in bringing this tri-dimensional YouTube experience to audiences, and that the Samsung Smart TV is the ideal platform for users to enjoy the ability to watch and share 3D content worldwide.
The company also said the partnership would aid the growth of both the 3D and the Internet-enabled television industries.
Using an updated, intuitive user interface specifically optimised for large screen devices and Smart TVs, YouTube on TV has simplified login and search screen functionality, states Entertainment Focus.
“The launch of YouTube on TV underscores one of YouTube's core missions: to make high quality video available anywhere and on any device. In addition to our efforts in Web and mobile, 3D videos on YouTube can now also be shared and enjoyed through high-quality-large-screen Smart TVs,” says Francisco Varela, YouTube's global head of platform partnerships.
Much like user-created content helped in the growth of the smartphone market, YouTube's 3D content for Smart TV service is a testament to the already thriving Smart TV industry.
