Samsung 3D service hits 1m views
A 3D video on-demand portal introduced by Samsung has racked up a total of 1 million views in just 100 days, despite the relatively small amount of Samsung 3D TV owners, reports Tech Digest.
As part of the company's Smart TV connected platform, the app allows a range of free 3D video content to be accessed, with over 10 000 3D viewings everyday since the service went live.
Broadband TV News says Samsung has started making its 3D video on-demand service available across Europe. Samsung recently added the Netherlands to its European roll-out.
Samsung's Explore 3D service allows viewers to stream free 3D content through a specially designed app for the Samsung Smart TV platform.
Until now, 3D content has only been available through paid subscription and Blu-ray, but over the next year, Samsung will provide more options for consumers to watch 3D content.
By the end of 2011, 70 free 3D videos will be available through the 'Explore 3D' app.
Telecom Paper reveals the 3D service also includes a Smart Hub, which is an 'All-Search' function and a 'Your Video' service which recommends movies based on audience viewing habits.
Market research company The NPD Group, says Samsung Electronics, is dominating the sale of both LED and plasma 3D sets in the US with a 61% share of the unit and dollar volume in its most recent reporting period, which was between May 22nd to June 18th, 2011, states Multichannel News.
