Computer Associates (CA) has appointed Sahara Computers as a distributor in Africa. The move to target a distributor exclusively for the North East West Central Africa (NEWCA) region is a first for CA and will add depth to Sahara's Africa partnership strategy.
In preparation, Sahara has already established a division within the company to manage the distribution operation, including the initial goal of capturing the attention of local resellers with the intention of opening further offices.
The company has also appointed former Workgroup CA product manager Mark Esslemont as general manager of the new division.
"I am excited about the division and the role it will play in furthering Sahara's prospects within the greater Africa region. CA has a powerful product and brand line that we will push to the regional resellers," explains Esslemont.
The main strategy is to create further business opportunity by visiting with end-users and resellers within prescribed areas to sell licence/ box/ OEM product, with a focus on OEM due to the Sahara brand.
Territories to be covered include: Algeria, Angola, Benin, Burundi, Cameroon, Chad, Congo, DRC, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritius, Mauritania, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Seychelles, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
"This is an exciting new development for the company. It reinforces our Africa partnership strategy and adds value to the existing product portfolio. The CA line-up is extensive and sought-after and we anticipate a strong reaction from the reseller market within the territory base to be covered," says Atul Gupta, Managing Director of Sahara Computers.
Matthew Barker, Field Partner manager at CA Africa, says: "The African market has always been of interest to Computer Associates because of the potential that exists in the sub-Saharan region.
"With the establishment of Sahara NEWCA's CA division, we will be able to strengthen our position in Africa while supporting Sahara's efforts to address the growing number of companies and user communities in the region.
"Together we will emphasize CA's network and systems management offerings as well as storage management, portal and business intelligence and application lifecycle and security management solutions.
"Our aim is to focus on identifying new small to medium-size customers and proactively create revenue-generating opportunities that will be fulfilled through Sahara NEWCA's CA division."
