RW Communications pushes into digital printing market with Itec solution

Marketing and design agency RW Communications has invested in a new colour production printing solution, supplied by Itec Central, in line with its strategy to migrate towards digital on-demand printing for most of its clients' requirements.

The company, which produces a range of print communications for businesses and government, decided to invest in a second production printer to support the growth of its business when it moved to new premises. It opted for Itec Central as the supplier of the new unit based on the presales service and support it offered.

Says Roger Warries, owner of RW Communications: “As a provider of print solutions to the corporate market, high-quality printing backed up by responsive service is our major selling point. With the move towards digital printing, we wanted a new device that would enable us to print large volumes on demand with no compromise to quality.”

The solution that RW Communications opted for was the Itec Press C8000 high-speed colour digital press, a solution that offers high-quality prints that rival offset printing. With an output of 80 pages per minute and a monthly duty cycle of 300 000 pages, this unit meets the demands of the most robust production printing environments. The C8000 allows finishing to be done inline, with booklets collated and saddle-stitched while they are being printed for professional finishes in record time. RW Communications is printing large volumes of booklets, and its print volumes are growing each month.

Adds Warries: “We believe in digital and we are actively encouraging our clients to print documents, like business cards and marketing collateral, on demand rather than printing in huge volumes. This saves them money on wastage, reduces costs of litho positives and plates, and offers faster turnaround times for print jobs. The Itec Central solution supports the print output and quality we need to be able to handle large volumes of on-demand printing.”

Warries says digital printing is enabling RW Communications to change its business model and offers a host of innovative solutions to its clients. For example, the company will soon launch its online Web to Print application that will allow customers to place and track their print orders online. “We believe these flexible services are the future of our business,” says Warries.

“The partnership between Itec Central and RW Communications has been great,” adds Justin Mathabata, sales manager at RW Communications. “This is one of the few times we have dealt with a supplier who has followed through with the sort of post-sales support we are looking for after winning the deal.”

Itec Central's powerful support infrastructure is backed up by value-added tools such as Itec Sentry, a software solution that reduces the need for user intervention and boosts system uptime by automating a number of key processes and tasks in the print environment.

It automates the reporting of many common service and maintenance issues of document output devices (including printers, copiers and MFPs), allowing Itec to manage RW's devices from a distance as effectively as it could if it had a technician on-site babysitting the devices 24 hours a day.

Thanks to Sentry, Itec knows nearly instantly when print infrastructure needs intervention, without customers needing to pick the phone up and order consumables or report a fault.

Shannon De Saint Pern, account manager at Itec Central, says innovative production printing companies, such as RW Communications, are starting to embrace digital printing as a way of enhancing their revenues and offering their clients more convenience and flexibility.

To achieve these goals, they are looking to partner with printing solutions companies with strong support infrastructures and the ability to help them optimise their production printing costs and results, she adds.

“Although on-demand printing is the wave of the future, South Africa's production print shops have been slow to adopt the technology,” says Chad Stuart, sales director at Itec Central. “Those that are embracing it today - like RW Communications - will be the ones best positioned to compete in the future.”
