Road hog for Christmas dinner?

A Web site allowing SA drivers to vent their feelings at their more aggro counterparts has gone live. Roadhogs.co.za has been created for the express need of road users who have been the victim of dangerous driving.

As the site explains, if you have ever been on the receiving end of a road hog who put your life or vehicle at risk because of their dangerous driving, literally rode you off the road or even just made you angry because they never acknowledged your courtesy, users can have the last word on the matter safely online.

The Web site allows users to enter data about their experience - everything from the date, place and comments, to the make and registration of the vehicle involved, as well as check whether their hog has a history. Visitors can also browse the Top Ten list of current offenders and sign up for a "Hog of the Day" report.

"It is an empowering experience for those who are being victimised daily on our roads," says co-founder Andrew Myers. "Roadhogs.co.za provides a place for people to vent safely online and keep their rage off the roads."

South Africa`s roads have been likened to a field of combat where avoiding injury has become a question of beating the odds. The country has an annual death toll of around 10 000 people, meaning almost 30 people a day are killed on our roads. Almost 150 000 people are injured in the half a million accidents that occur each year and according to media reports, the situation is worsening with a road user`s chances of being involved in an accident increasing by 10% each year.

The site offers a mailing list updating users of random road hogs, and soon plans to offer statistics detailing the most notorious cities and vehicle types.
