Respected repro house chooses respected printer

Serving the printing, publishing, packaging, advertising and allied industry for over three decades, Cape Town-based Castle Graphics is one of the most respected repro houses in South Africa.

"As a certified BEE company committed to improving image and print service delivery, we continually aim to set the standard in expert imaging production," says MD Nick Castle.

Castle Graphics specialises in high resolution scanning, DTP and make up, digital file transfer to publications, poster printing, indigo digital printing, variable data printing, impositions, typesetting, and black and white printing using the recently acquired Oc'e VarioPrint 2110. Offering 105 black and white prints per minute, this system is ideally suited to commercial printing markets.

The company also offers a variety of finishing solutions, including saddle stitching, perfect binding, wirobinding, unibind, drilling and creasing and perforation.

Castle says: "We take quality seriously and have the people, structures and resources in place to ensure consistent quality, which in our view puts us ahead of the rest."

When Castle Graphics took the decision to expand into black and white printing, it quickly became apparent that the Oc'e VarioPrint 2110 was the right machine for getting a foot in the door of the black and white market.

Castle says: "The system has proven easy to use and its graphical interface takes all the complexity out of the most advanced jobs. We are using it to print on 80gsm bond for book inners and it has allowed us to compete in the book market.

"The overall quality, especially with half-tones, is phenomenal and it is consistent. The vacuum-fed paper trays results in minimal paper jams and this reduces wastage. Custom page sizes (including over-sizes) can be fed from all trays and this gives us better media flexibility."

The VarioPrint 2110's sophisticated array of applications include diverse, complex documents in both analogue and digital, tabbed jobs, mixed-stock and colour inserts. It is ideal for the integration of full colour and black and white in one document. The system can also be connected to inline finishing equipment such as inline binders, stackers or booklet makers.

Castle Graphics was particularly impressed that the VarioPrint 2110 could run alongside its existing Indigo system and that it slotted in perfectly with existing finishing equipment in the printroom. "The low noise level and minimal ozone emissions are a bonus to any printroom," adds Castle.

He concludes by saying: "The fact that the VarioPrint 2110 can scan hard-copies and stitch from the top have also been useful offerings to our clients. All in all, this Oc'e system has allowed us to broaden our horizon and move closer to our vision of a quality 'one-stop shop' for people looking for any type of print solution."
