Past candidates can now apply online to replace lost or damaged certificates, says Umalusi.
According to a statement, Umalusi began testing the online system in July 2022 and officially rolled it out last month.
For R137, a candidate can collect a replacement certificate from Umalusi within two working days of the application, it states.
Alternatively, a candidate can pay R202, which includes R137 for the certificate and R65 courier fees, to have the certificate sent within seven working days to their chosen physical address.
Umalusi is SA’s council for quality assurance in education. It has been responsible for the replacement of the Senior Certificate and National Senior Certificate since September 1992.
Candidates can replace the following: National Certificate Vocational, National Certificate, National Senior Certificate, Senior Certificate, General and Further Education Certificate, Amended Senior Certificate and ABET Level 4, notes the statement.
These are the qualification certificates Umalusi issues to candidates after they have qualified, in order to gain access to further education, higher education or the world of work.
The move has been commended by the university sector, which says the online verification of results will be helpful to institutions of higher learning during registration periods.
