Red Brick ships on 64-bit HP Unix

Johannesburg, 19 Jun 1998

Red Brick Systems has announced the availability of a native, 64-bit version of Red Brick Warehouse 5.1, including Red Brick Vista, on Hewlett-Packard`s 64-bit operating environment, HP-UX 11. Red Brick customers and partners who have chosen HP`s 64-bit servers to deploy data warehousing applications will benefit from improved data access and increased multi-user scalability. These benefits result in quicker, more cost-efficient data analysis than through using traditional 32-bit computing systems. "Our relationship with HP is based on building and delivering leading solutions to match our mutual customers` requirements for successful decision support," says John Reid, senior director of business development at Red Brick. "HP continues to demonstrate leadership in high-performance data warehousing with its 64-bit offering, and Red Brick`s support of this platform extends the value and productivity of Red Brick products in decision support." "The advantages of 64-bit computing for data warehousing are amplified by Red Brick`s features which are designed specifically to address data warehousing applications," says Patrick Rogers, worldwide marketing manager for HP`s High Performance Systems Division. "We expect data warehousing customers and partners who require large memory caches and quick analysis to see a performance improvement with this new offering." HP`s 64-bit support offers increased system performance and capacity. Users who require high-performance, resource-intensive applications, such as those in data warehousing, can benefit from HP`s 64-bit support as their user base, data size and demand for throughput increase. Red Brick Warehouse has been optimized to take advantage of the extremely large memory capabilities available through 64-bit computing. This enables faster response times on queries against very large data sets for increasing numbers of users. HP-UX 11 also provides a seamless transition to 64-bit computing for its existing 32-bit customers, highlighted by its ability to run existing applications without requiring any recoding or recompiling. The native, 64-bit versions of Red Brick Warehouse 5.1 and Red Brick Vista on HP-UX 11 are available now.
