RDC has been servicing the database market

Johannesburg, 14 Jan 2011

Relational Database Consulting (RDC) has been servicing the database market for the past 15 years, with Oracle as the anchor technology for its offerings. RDC is a BEE success story of a company quietly delivering a quality service to numerous corporate and public clients. Recognised for its agility in service, the management team members are often found onsite when there are issues at a client, supporting the team to ensure a quick resolution. A combined management experience of over 100 years has bred a delivery-minded culture within the company.

It is a leader in the provision of database technologies and is able to achieve significant optimisation within a very short space of time. RDC has a knowledge base of fixes to resolve problems in the shortest timeframe. All technical staff members are industry certified professionals and incentivised to keep their certifications current.

A major financial bank for the past 15 years has outsourced its Oracle database department to RDC. Another major client, Telkom, has been a true supporter of RDC as a BEE company. Both clients have been more than satisfied with the cost efficiencies and quality performance the relationships have realised. RDC is a South African-based company that is 68% black owned, managed and operated.

It is a leader in the database administration (DBA) market and its business model makes it possible for various clients to derive value from its offerings. “In the Oracle space we are particularly strong in Real Application Clusters, Oracle EBS database support, performance tuning, upgrades and the design or optimisation of backup and disaster recovery (DR) strategies,” says Sales Director Rodney Naidoo. Due to the speed and quality of its response, its affordability and no overtime rate, it has become the accepted DBA service provider standard. “Our size cannot afford bureaucracy, and we tend to be highly efficient cost wise,” says Naidoo.

“There is no substitute for experience.” Skills shortages have been one of its biggest challenges.

Refusing to compromise on the quality of staff, the company put together a learnership programme to alleviate the skills shortage. Retention strategies for its staff members include a profit share scheme that rewards top performers and allows staff to participate in equity.

RDC plans to remain the industry leader when it comes to database work. “We will remain the preferred one stop DBA shop regardless of the technology,” says Naidoo. RDC wants to take Oracle services from strength to strength while growing its presence in other database technology stacks, especially open source.

A helping hand in the community, the company adopted Mayibuye Primary School, in Rabie Ridge, through the Adopt-a-School programme. RDC supplies school uniforms, soccer kits, and logistical items like beds. Future plans for the school include the sponsorship of the school literacy programme and assistance in restocking the library.

RDC is not only a leader in its field, but also a long-term partner to its clients
