Razer, a high-performance gaming hardware provider, has entered into a distribution deal with Corex, a South African-based business-to-consumer distributor.
Under the deal, Corex will distribute a limited range of Razer products, such as gaming mice, keyboards, headsets, mouse surfaces and accessories, to the South African gaming community.
Thomas Buck, Razer's regional sales manager for Europe, says: "Razer entered the South African market in 2007, supporting gamers from the onset and helping grow the gaming industry generally. We are working exclusively with Corex to service the distribution of our products to our retailers and customers to ensure seamless supply to the South African market.
"On the distribution side, Corex will help Razer to increase brand awareness and product availability to the next level, leveraging their experience and dedication to the gaming, consumer and channel segments."
In a statement, Razer says SA's video gaming market is currently worth R1.72 billion, according to local market research company, the GFK Group. Despite global economic challenges in other markets, gaming as an entertainment sector has fared well, with year-on-year growth over the past several years, it adds.
With a burgeoning local industry, it notes, gaming is set to be the fastest-growing form of mass media for the foreseeable future, underscored by the recent success of SA's own gaming expo, rAge.
"Gaming is becoming more and more popular in South Africa, and we are committed to assuring that gamers will have access to the phenomenal high-performance gaming products of Razer," concludes Buck.
Werner Joubert, GM for Corex Channel and Retail Group, adds: "Corex has always been known as a great follower and contributor to the gaming marketing in South Africa, with a number of avid gamers working for us.
"The answer was unanimous when we asked what gaming brand we should approach when we wanted to make an addition to our gaming product portfolio, of a top-tier peripherals supplier, and that was Razer.
"We are very excited about the partnership with Razer, and it gives Corex a full range of gaming products to offer to the gaming market. It will be easier than ever before for gamers to get their hands on the gear they crave from a brand that engineers its products for gamers. Razer and Corex are two very strong brands in the South African market and we can only get stronger with our new partnership."
