Leading IT company brings e-mentoring to Hayes and Harlington school
Rackspace Managed Hosting Europe, based in Stockley Park, Uxbridge, and Europe`s fastest growing managed hosting specialist, has teamed up with the Hillingdon Education Business Partnership to help mentor local school children via the Internet.
As the pupils of Harlington Community School prepare for their GCSEs, Rackspace employees are entering into an e-mentoring programme with the 15- to 16-year-olds, designed to help encourage them with their studies and inspire them in future learning.
Pupils will converse with their e-mentors on a weekly basis, tapping into the knowledge and experience of Rackspace`s staff or generally chatting about their studies and hobbies. In addition to the e-mentoring scheme, Rackspace is helping out at Wood End Park Primary School, in Hayes, where its staff will be leading reading sessions to help coach children with reading difficulties.
Dominic Monkhouse, managing director, Rackspace Managed Hosting Europe, comments: "Rackspace is a young and rapidly growing company full of enthusiastic people keen to help out in the local community. Our business philosophy is one of Fanatical Support, 100% commitment in everything we do. This is a view we follow in life as well as business and we wanted to inspire local school children and encourage them to achieve the very best in everything they do."
Monkhouse continues: "The e-mentoring scheme at Harlington Community School provides youngsters with the opportunity to chat about school and future ambitions with `Rackers` (our employees), many of whom were studying not so long ago themselves. Everyone here is looking forward to getting involved in the scheme and helping inspire young people to achieve their goals in life."
