Harare's premier commercial printer, The PrintWorks Group, continued its impressive expansion initiative today, with the nationwide launch of six express print centres and two state-of-the-art digital print presses capable of variable data printing, a feature increasingly attractive to many businesses in the region.
The flagship PrintWorks Xpress centre, in Harare's northern suburb of Mount Pleasant, was the third of the six express print centres to open, followed by branches in Harare, Kwe Kwe, Mutare and Bulawayo.
The expansion comes soon after PrintWorks was invited to join the elite Xerox Premier Partners Global Network, making history as the first African print company outside of South Africa to be awarded this status.
Says PrintWorks CEO, and winner of the 2011 Harare Chamber of Commerce Businessman of the Year award, Ross Conlon: "Since the launch of PrintWorks 10 years ago, we have always driven a market leading culture with an eye on continuous improvement in a shrinking market, a philosophy that has also made us the first Bytes Document Solutions Premier Partner on the African continent (outside of South Africa).
"Our country dynamic has also been such that being a leader is not an option but a survival tactic. Due to the closed market that Zimbabwe was under, we did not have capital expenditure for as long as 15 years. With an open market, our customers are now expecting the absolute best service 24 hours a day, six days a week - and we have to deliver or they will turn to countries such as South Africa to fulfil their needs.
"About two years ago, we identified digital print as a significant opportunity for us - we were already established as a leading commercial printer, but were lacking this capability. Through our relationship with Document Support Centre (exclusive Xerox distributor in Zimbabwe), we are happy to now be able to tap into the digital print market, knowing that we have once again deployed state-of-the-art technology.
"We have actively focused on increasing the awareness of our Digital Colour Presses throughout Africa," says Olivier Merven, Africa Regional Manager at Bytes Document Solutions. "Our focus and commitment has involved recruiting dedicated product specialists to assist our partners and customers in the territory, as well as in-depth training concentrating primarily on the business challenges and needs of the commercial printer. The increased levels of interest shown and the increases in our sales across Africa indicate that our efforts have been effective."
