Post of Slovenia deploys Concord`s SPECTRUM software

SPECTRUM solution ensures IT infrastructure availability and performance for 550 post offices throughout the country of Slovenia

Concord Communications, Inc today announced that Post of Slovenia has deployed SPECTRUM Xsight software to ensure around-the-clock IT infrastructure availability and performance for Slovenia`s backbone network that connects 550 post offices around the country.

Post of Slovenia is a model example of an e-business leader in Slovenia, embracing technology to migrate traditional customer services away from being accessed by standing in line to being accessed online.

Customers throughout Slovenia access its Web site to check postal rates from the convenience of their own homes, and locate street addresses and telephone numbers for local post offices. Post of Slovenia is one of only four Certification Authorities in Slovenia, offering fast, easy-to-use, complete online management of personal finances, as well as invoice and document management and archiving.

"Our number one priority is to expedite the deployment of our point-of-sale and Web services applications to enable us to offer a superior, seamless online experience to our customers," Post of Slovenia`s Systems Engineer Gorazd Kurez explained. "Our network and server infrastructure must remain available and reliable at all times, as it supports an extremely important revenue stream for us in providing new services based on our market orientation."

Systems integrator Evertec deployed the SPECTRUM solution, which manages 700 HP servers and 500 routers and 300 switches from Cisco Systems through integrations with Compaq Insight Manager software and CiscoWorks software. Post of Slovenia`s IT infrastructure employs a combination of 802.11 wireless, ATM, Frame Relay, ISDN, MPLS, and VPN technologies to connect to branch offices.

SPECTRUM Alarm Notification Manager software works in conjunction with the Remedy ARS trouble-ticketing system to escalate problem notification to the network operations centre 24x7 via e-mail, pagers and cellphones. Post of Slovenia plans to integrate Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) solution with the SPECTRUM solution in the near future, and will evaluate the SPECTRUM Connector for MOM solution.

Kurez particularly values SPECTRUM Watch Editor software, relying on it to monitor LAN and WAN backbone bandwidth utilisation. "The solution is invaluable for its ability to monitor and control performance thresholds across each link in our network," said Kurez. "Yet for all its power, it`s incredibly easy to use."

The SPECTRUM software keeps a close eye on Post of Slovenia`s ATM and Frame Relay connections that support critical, real-time online banking operations. Kurez is able to significantly reduce trouble-shooting time and accelerate mean time to repair (MTTR) to improve service quality.

Kurez points to intelligent modelling, root cause analysis and service level management as major differentiators that elevate the SPECTRUM software above the competition. Post of Slovenia evaluated several vendors` infrastructure management solutions, and concluded that multi-vendor support, ease of use and scalability made the SPECTRUM solution a perfect match for its evolving IT environment.

"SPECTRUM Xsight software enables me to accomplish work equivalent to a much larger network operations staff," Kurez concluded. "I can`t say enough about how this solution helps me do a better job in less time."
