Pharmaceutical company, Pfizer, has rolled out more than 250 IBM Lenovo ThinkPad X41 tablet PCs for its field representatives, providing them with mobile technology that can also connect to the Pfizer central office.
The tablet PCs were implemented by IT services and solutions provider, Datacentrix.
Says Theo Hattingh, Business Technology Director of Pfizer: "Our field force has to be able to work in a mobile fashion while still being linked to our central office, from both a communications and data synchronisation perspective, and so needed a solution that was physically light, feature-rich and flexible enough to suit a number of different working styles."
Pfizer's first choice was the IBM Lenovo ThinkPad X41, which it believed met all of these expectations.
"This roll-out marks a first of Pfizer worldwide, with the local office being the first to roll-out these IBM Lenovo tablet PCs with a wireless connection to the home base," he explains.
Hattingh maintains that Datacentrix offered Pfizer the most cost-effective solution to match its requirements. "Datacentrix's national footprint and ability to support these devices nationwide were also compelling reasons for our decision to partner with them.
"Datacentrix managed to implement the first wave of tablet PCs within three days, an impressive timeframe which included the migration of data from the existing platform."
According to Gavin Smith, account manager at Datacentrix, the organisation's close partnership with Lenovo enabled it to offer the most competitive solution to Pfizer. "Datacentrix's strong BEE credentials, superior service levels and high level of credibility within the marketplace were also key considerations in Pfizer's decision to partner with us."
