Pegasus demonstrates information lifecycle management functionality

By IIS
Johannesburg, 02 Mar 2004

Pegasus Disk Technologies announces that it will be showing Information Lifecycle (ILM) Management (ILM) solutions with support for Windows 2003 at the upcoming AIIM show in New York, NY and CeBIT in Hanover Germany.

InveStore provides archive data protection with write-once, secure optical drives and libraries as a necessary part of an ILM strategy to ensure compliance with many governmental regulations.

The ILM demonstrations offers archive storage management and archive media support for companies working with Pegasus as part of a total ILM solution. Pegasus provides the archive media connectivity as part of an ILM partner solution, and will be showing support for hardware technology such as Plasmon Ultra Density Optical as well as the user interface level of the ILM solution itself.

"Pegasus is pleased to be working with our solution providers to demonstrate connectivity and archive support," said Roy Slicker, President and CEO, Pegasus Disk Technologies.

"This is a good time to look at protection and archive retention. In conjunction with optical solutions such as Plasmon`s Ultra Density Optical (UDO) we allow customers to meet industry data alteration and retention standards governed by external regulatory organizations while maintaining transparent user and application access to data."

"Our partners allow users to address the fast growing information lifecycle market, and the combination of these products help provide additional customer return on investment through the utilization of shared resources in an automated archive environment."

Information Lifecycle Management is a business process to automate the management of business critical information that enables you to maximize the value from your information, at the lowest total cost of ownership, at every point in the data lifecycle while meeting the requirements set forth by regulatory bodies in your vertical markets.

InveStore is an easy to implement software solution for managing storage devices under Windows NT, 2000 and XP. It provides Explorer-like functionality, while maintaining compatibility and support for the historical media and devices that are used for storage management. It also provides for the ability to expand single-volume limitations, spanning multiple volumes for increased data archival capability. InveStore goes beyond similar products by providing greater functionality and enterprise level control of secondary storage systems and their individual components.

Pegasus ILM solution partners include:

Plasmon

Pegasus InveStore provides transparent drive letter access and a developer API for Plasmon optical solutions operating in Windows XP and 2000 Professional, Server, Advanced Server, and Datacenter Server environments.

"The new Plasmon 30GB UDO drives and libraries offer a 230 percent increased capacity and a 33 percent better transfer rate than previous generation optical products. This is the biggest capacity jump in 20 years of optical innovation. The archival market has been has been looking for this kind of capacity and performance jump since the release of 14x Magneto Optical (MO) technology."

"With the new capacity and performance enhancements, UDO clearly addresses regulatory compliance and other archival market opportunities. Combined with Pegasus software management controls for Microsoft Windows NT, 2000 and XP operating platform, UDO provides high capacity storage security and reliability for applications in regulated markets demanding write-once storage," explains Roy Slicker, Pegasus President and CEO.

Veritas. VERITAS wanted to add compliant storage functionality to their NetBackup Storage Migrator product line. InveStore v4 was chosen because of the ability to manage a library or libraries as a single volume from a single drive letter access point.

In addition, both NetBackup Storage Migrator and InveStorerun as Microsoft Management Console snap-ins, allowing VERITAS to integrate with Pegasus with very little engineering effort.

In the words of Brian Dodd of VERITAS engineering, "We found the Pegasus-AFS to be much more robust than the solution we currently have, which uses the Microsoft RSM media manager." Pegasus V4 and Veritas NetBackup Storage Migrator operate together as snap-ins to the Microsoft Management Console, creating a powerful policies and rules based file migration solution for data, images, e-mails and backups.

Caminosoft

InveStore archive management software has been selected as the archive engine for CaminoSoft`s Information Lifecycle Management solution. Pegasus InveStore makes compliance easy and affordable. InveStore creates a virtualized data pool that expands secondary storage onto any number of archive devices while simplifying management of those resources.

CaminoSoft`s Managed Server HSM software provides an information lifecycle management model that is a cost-effective solution for managing the complexities of data storage management. By combining Managed Server HSM with InveStore, the result is a finely tuned data storage resource that enables virtually infinite storage growth, while meeting strictly regulated compliance requirements and increased data availability with a minimal amount of effort and expense. As storage requirements increase or change, additional storage devices can be simply added to the pool.

Using Pegasus InveStore, customers have the ability to support existing legacy hardware side by side with new UDO hardware and to provide a software bridge between the technologies.

Paired with applications such as Hierarchical Storage Management data lifecycle management, email archiving, medical imaging, and voice and video data recording, InveStore Storage Management Software gives users the power to share, organize and safeguard vital corporate knowledge while meeting the requirements set forth by the SEC, HIPPA, FDA and other regulating bodies.
