Paradigm Project Management (PPM), a project management organisation executing capital projects across the mining industry and throughout southern Africa, has opted for Post Vision Technology's Project Portfolio Office (PPO) offering to meet its stringent project management needs.
PPO is a Web-based, enterprise capable application designed, developed and supported in South Africa to assist organisations of all sizes and in any industry to manage projects and project portfolios.
According to Paul Armstrong, director at PPM, the company needed a project management solution able to co-ordinate and manage its distributed resources that was simple, expandable and flexible.
"We needed a system that was not onerous to use, would immediately satisfy our project management needs or be flexible enough to adapt to them and was transportable (Web-based). We also did not want to be burdened with having to manage the system hardware and software.
"Our involvement in the management of large capital projects has exposed us to practically every project management system available, all leaving something to be desired. PPO's flexibility and access to the back-office team ensure that we can tailor it to suit our needs."
Armstrong maintains that PPM did not even consider the implementation of any other project management software. "PPO technically meets our needs and there is a high degree of comfort that any further requirements will be addressed. There was also a company-to-company connection at a values level that formed the context of the collaborative engagement."
"PPM will be utilising the PPO solution as the coordination and management tool for all of its major projects," explains Gerrit Brits, director, i2i Project Portfolio Management (PPO consulting and implementation partner). "It essentially becomes the single communication portal with key information for the entire organisation to understand the strategic context, project focus, individual project health and progress made on the project portfolios."
"PPO users can access the fully Web-enabled system from anywhere via the Web, all users require to access the system is a Web browser," says Guy Jelley, CEO of Post Vision Technology. "No additional software needs to be loaded on user machines. In addition, the n-tier architecture underlying PPO means that the system scales exceptionally well, from five to more than 5 000 users. The various layers of the system, including the Web server, application server and database server can either run on a single system or distributed across multiple systems with fail-over clustering to support exceptionally large enterprises at no extra cost," he adds.
