Open System Solutions (OSS) has joined the Cisco Systems security associate initiative as a charter member. The OSS Private I syslog monitoring software is one of the first technologies expected to be verified for interoperation with Cisco network security solutions under the new programme`s requirements.
Private I is a professional-calibre syslog management tool for monitoring and reporting all traffic moving through firewalls, routers and VPNs to identify problems and analyse network usage patterns.
Private I provides real-time alerting and historical reporting on WAN/LAN security attacks, bandwidth deployment, device optimisation and employee use of Internet services.
The objective of the new Cisco security associate programme is to ease deployment for customers of third-party security products by fully testing and verifying them for complete interoperation with Cisco security offerings.
"Our goal is to deliver secure, reliable networks to enable customers to take advantage of the Internet economy," says Tracey Lewis, security associate programme manager for Cisco Systems.
"The Cisco security associate programme enables Cisco customers to extend their security capabilities. With its syslog monitoring functionality, Private I can be an important component of managing secure network environments."
Private I is designed to work with industry-standard syslog file formats generated by such devices as routers and switches, running Cisco IOS software, Cisco Secure PIX firewalls and VPN devices.
The software can manage gigabytes of syslog data from a single workstation, and includes extensive management reports, multi-level queries, historical syslog activity, and data export to databases and spreadsheets.
