Oracle eyes FatWire Software

Software giant Oracle has entered into an agreement to acquire FatWire Software, a privately-held content management company, reports PC World.

Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed. The proposed transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, and is expected to close by the middle of the year, according to Oracle.

Fierce Content Management says FatWire's solutions will extend Oracle's presence in business intelligence, customer relationship management and enterprise content management.

Oracle says it expects the deal to be finalised mid-year 2011, but until the purchase is complete, each company will operate independently.

Since Oracle's 2010 acquisition of Sun Microsystems, it has been mostly focused on developing its IT data centre infrastructure business. Oracle has made two buys in the last six months that indicate the company is now looking to engage in other markets, according to eWeek.

In addition to the FatWire deal, Oracle bought e-commerce software maker Art Technology Group (ATG) in November 2010 for $1 billion.

ATG provided Oracle with customer-facing applications, including analytics, click-to-call and call tracking features, aimed at helping customers navigate Oracle's growing Web presence.
