Oracle and Red Hat have reaffirmed a strategic partnership aimed at bringing quality products and support to the Linux community. This marks the first in a series of initiatives by the two to bring developers and ISVs the infrastructure they need to build Internet-based, enterprise-class applications.
To kick off this relationship, Oracle and Red Hat jointly announced that Oracle has certified Oracle8i on Red Hat Linux, and that future Oracle product releases will also be certified on Red Hat.
The companies also announced a promotional offering of Oracle8i to Red Hat developers who register on Red Hat`s corporate website (www.redhat.com). The offer will be available until 27 September, 1999, and will include a membership to the Oracle Technology Network (technet.oracle.com), and Oracle`s developer site.
In addition to the Oracle8i distribution project, Oracle and Red Hat plan to roll out a series of jointly sponsored education and enablement programs in the fourth quarter of this year to ISVs and corporate developers, including webcasts, regional seminars and special training offers.
"This promotion is a logical extension of our relationship with Red Hat," says Michael Rocha, senior VP of the Platform Technologies Division at Oracle. "We are continually expanding upon our commitment to Linux and this offer with Red Hat gives us the opportunity to reach more Linux developers than ever before. It also gives these developers easy access to the industry leading technology that they are now demanding."
The coupling of Oracle`s database technology and Red Hat Linux operating system will accelerate the development of Internet-based computing solutions on Linux by providing convenient access to the latest technology on Linux.
In the future, Oracle and Red Hat will continue to collaborate closely on Linux product development to ensure maximized performance and reliability for Oracle technology solutions on Linux.
