The Linux Users Association (LUA) today announced the Linux and Opensource 2002 conference to be held from 6 to 8 November.

Carmen Barnes, LUA chairman, says the conference will include lectures and demonstrations from a range of Linux professionals and open source companies, and will include topics such as security, migration and gaming.

Barnes says a general call for papers was issued earlier this month and the response so far has been "excellent".

"Although the main thrust of papers received to date is security- and cracking-related, papers have also been received on Linux in schools, Rapid Web Application development tools, licensing and free software." Further contributions are still welcome, according to Barnes.

She says one of the key areas of discussion during the conference will be operating system migration, with "comprehensive operating system migration" papers released and discussed during the event.

LUA is a recently formed local organisation that aims to provide Linux users with installation and usage support, as well as drafting and maintaining documentation for users planning on migrating to the open source Linux operating system. The organisation also plans to further Linux penetration in the local market by maintaining a Linux employment section.
