Novell has announced that its Novell Filr and Novell iPrint applications are now approved and available for Samsung KNOX, a comprehensive mobile security solution for the latest Samsung devices.
"By combining Samsung KNOX's capabilities with Novell Filr and Novell iPrint, enterprises can provide user-friendly, security-enabled mobile file-sharing and mobile printing in a corporate environment," says Hushmeera Rajah, technology specialist at Novell SA.
"The joint solution enables secure enterprise file sharing on Samsung mobile devices from creation to print. Samsung KNOX allows Novell Filr to be securely managed alongside a user's personal data from a single mobile device, and provides an additional layer of security through hardware-level features that provide enhanced security."
Rajah adds that Novell Filr lets mobile workers access, share and collaborate on files anywhere, at any time, from the device of their choice, while Novell iPrint allows users to print more securely from their Android devices to legacy printers.
"Novell Filr is a mobile file-sharing solution that gives IT complete control of all shared files, and provides users with anywhere, any-device access. Novell is the pioneer of file and print services built specifically for the enterprise."
As a virtual appliance, Novell iPrint offers self-service printing for the enterprise and allows users of new mobile devices to print from existing legacy printers. Rajah adds that only Novell iPrint offers a single, scalable solution to manage printing needs across multiple office locations from any device.
As a comprehensive enterprise mobile solution, Samsung KNOX safeguards enterprise data on Android devices without invading the privacy of employees by separating work and personal environments on one device, meeting the needs of the most difficult, highly secure corporate environments.
Rajah says Novell is committed to building enterprise-level software that simplifies the IT task of balancing security and additional corporate requirements while maintaining employee productivity. "By strategically partnering with Samsung, employees can combine their business and personal needs on a single device, without compromising the security that IT departments have to maintain."
Gartner rates Samsung the market leader for mobile device shipments with 29.7% market share. Raja also notes that increasing security on Android devices provides IT departments with the convenience and assurance to implement BYOD strategies.
"Generally available, Samsung KNOX provides enhanced security for enterprise data, by restricting Novell Filr to interact with only approved enterprise applications," says Rajah. "As consumers continue to bring Samsung devices into corporate environments, Samsung Knox remains dedicated to increasing the security of sensitive data. With Novell Filr, Samsung users gain the mobile access they rely on to remain productive, while control of all corporate files remains in the hands of IT department."
