HMD Global, the Finnish company that owns the rights to use Nokia's brand on mobile phones, has unveiled the Nokia 9 PureView, its latest smartphone that features five cameras.

The Nokia brand was revived in 2017 with retro feature phones and smartphones with Android One, which means the devices run Google software the way the Internet giant intended it to work, without any added bloatware.

A little over two years later, Nokia phones now rank in the top 10 among other global smartphone brands, and top five in more than 30 countries around the world, according to Shaun Durandt, GM for Southern Africa at HMD Global.

The Nokia 9 PureView is the company's first smartphone that features a five camera array system with Zeiss optics. It has two colour sensors for accurate colour images and three monochromatic sensors for sharpness and detail. All five sensors work together to collect up to 10-times the amount of light and will capture at least 60MP of imaging data.

"Designed for photography enthusiasts, the Nokia 9 PureView is the only smartphone to capture images simultaneously from all five lenses to give you an image capture so rich that post-processing possibilities are endless," Durandt elaborates. "On top, we bring power editing suites like Adobe Photoshop Lightroom and Google Photos depth editor right to your fingertip."

The Nokia 9 PureView launches with Android 9 Pie. Other features include an OLED 2K screen with PureDisplay technology and integrated Qi Wireless charging, the screen has an integrated fingerprint sensor, as well as biometric face unlocking technology.

The new smartphone is exclusively available from Vodacom and its retail partners, and is available in midnight blue for R699 per month on contract or from R11 849 on prepaid.

"We are proud to partner with HMD Global, the home of Nokia phones. Through our exclusive deal, we are pleased to put these magnificent devices in the hands of South African consumers," says Davide Tacchino, managing executive of terminals at Vodacom.
