NHS trials GE Healthcare
GE Healthcare has supplied an NHS trust with patient monitoring technology as part of a pilot scheme designed to improve quality of healthcare, reports Zenopa.com.
NHS Central Lancashire has incorporated the medical technology firm's IntelO health guide system in Preston, involving 40 patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in the initial 12-month trial.
Richard Rees-Davies, GE Healthcare's UK general manager for home health, says: "The increasing cost and burden of chronic disease is a huge problem in the UK. This is where new health technologies like the IntelO health guide can make a real difference."
Healthcare creates opportunity for VARs
CIOs are concerned about their technology and electronic healthcare record investments meeting the criteria for 'meaningful use' as set forth in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, says Channel Insider.
Valued-added resellers looking to reap the benefits of the increased spend in electronic health records and the corresponding value-added services that go along with it, may find themselves in an improving market position, according to a report by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
Because electronic health records cannot be done in a vacuum, everyone needs to jump on board and start sharing data through what PwC calls a “national health information superhighway”, and it just doesn't exist yet, according to the CIOs surveyed.
