New unified threat management appliances from Duxbury Networking

Johannesburg, 28 Jun 2010

A new series of 'all-in-one' gateway security appliances designed to protect businesses against threats such as malware hosted on Web pages, phishing, spam, virus infected e-mails, hackers and denial-of-service attacks, has been released by Duxbury Networking.

The Netgear ProSecure UTM series is said to offer comprehensive security coverage facilitated by patent-pending Stream Scanning Technology.

“This enables the ProSecure UTM to optimise virus and malware threat databases that are over one million signatures in size or up to 400 times more comprehensive than legacy all-in-one platforms,” says Andy Robb, chief technology officer at Duxbury Networking.

“Because comprehensive network security solutions require an abundance of processing power to examine network traffic in real-time, existing all-in-one security solutions often use rudimentary security technologies that trade comprehensiveness for speed,” he explains. True security must satisfy the requirements in terms of both speed and coverage.

“The UTM's architecture, combined with hybrid in-the-cloud Web filter and anti-spam technologies, along with proven firewall and VPN functionality, satisfy these requirements and thus form an ideal gateway solution,” he adds.

The ProSecure UTM is able to replace any existing firewall or router. A 10-step set-up wizard guides users through installation phase.

Administration is performed through an intuitive Web-based interface. Users are able to set granular policies and alerts, check summary statistics and graphical reports, drill down to IP address-level data, and integrate log data with standard network management tools using SNMP. Malware and IPS signature, software and firmware updates are all handled by the UTM - online and automatically.
