Sony's latest PlayStation, due to be shipped to South Africans in December, has more than one million pre-orders worldwide, and the organisers of this year's rAge ("really Awesome gaming expo") say Sony will be showcasing its latest console offering at its stand.

Sony was initially criticised for failing to provide concrete details about the console at its launch in May. The console itself was not available for viewing at the event, and the price point and details about the design were not discussed. Since then, more data has emerged. It will reportedly feature a simpler processor to encourage a broad range of development, social integration, support for downloadable content and a new wireless controller, and it will cost about R6 000.

The console, which begins shipping in the US in mid-November, is up against Microsoft's Xbox One, which goes on sale a week later.

rAge visitors will be able to play BEYOND: Two Souls, The Invizimals and Tearaway at the Sony stand. Gran Turismo 6 will also be playable at its own stand.

rAge takes place at the Coca Cola Dome, in Johannesburg, from 4 to 6 October.
