New LDAP provides a high performance, robust global directory service

SGI has introduced the availability of MessagingDirect`s enterprise directory solution, LDAP/X.500, for its IRIX operating system. The new LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) provides a high performance, robust global directory service for use within large-scale, complex environments.

It offers full X.500 and native LDAPv3 support, providing sophisticated standardised X.500 access control, replication, and X.509 strong authentication, in addition to the LDAP functionality. This facilitates a fully distributed service with centralised administration, resilience against network outages and effective scaling.

"For example, telecommunications service providers demand highly effective internal messaging infrastructure management and support, as well as being able to offer value-added directory services to their clients," says Vaughan Wooler, MD of SGI sub-Saharan Africa. "LDAP/X.500 provides a wide range of directory-enabled security mechanisms for their Intranet, Extranet and Internet communications, including full PKI support."

The MD Directory is available on Silicon Graphics workstations and scalable ccNuma servers. The MD Store messaging server based on IMAP4 and SASL and the MD Switch, a high volume message transfer agent supporting both Internet Mail and X.400, is also available on the IRIX operating system.

MessagingDirect is a leading provider of high performance, scalable and robust LDAP/X.500 directory services that support important enterprise applications.
