New Horizons Computer Learning Centres announce major expansion drive

New Horizons Computer Learning Centres Southern Africa has announced a major expansion drive following the acquisition of the sub-Saharan master franchise by the UK-based DCD Group of companies, which include NH Computer Training PLC in London.

With operations in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Bloemfontein and Harare (Zimbabwe), New Horizons is already a major force in the local computer training market. Internationally, New Horizons is the world`s largest computer training centre with over 200 training centres in 40 countries.

With a turnover last year of more than US$144 million, the UK-based group has interests that span trade finance, property and investments. The group owns the master franchise for New Horizons in the UK and has training centres in London and Birmingham. In the next 24 months a further 12 more training centres will be opened throughout the UK.

"As well as opening new training centres throughout Southern Africa, we will be upgrading existing facilities with the latest equipment," said the new SA managing director, Mr Zaid Randeree. "We are also absolutely committed to the New Horizons philosophy of continuous enhancement of our staff`s teaching skills."

Sandy Mey, New Horizons` newly appointed SA general manager said the growth potential for the company in Southern Africa is huge.

"There is a worldwide shortage of people with computer skills and this is particularly critical in South Africa, where there is a need both to replace skilled emigrants and to grow the overall skills base," she said.

"New Horizons has an unmatched track record in delivering effective training for both end-users and technicians. We have strategic partnerships with all the major software publishers, such as Microsoft, Lotus and Corel, and work with them directly on the development of new courseware to match the advances in technology.

"The New Horizons logo is accepted all over the world as a symbol of training excellence and quality, and we are confident of extending our position of market leadership throughout the region."

Until its recent sale, the main shareholder in New Horizons Southern Africa was training industry veteran Jane Yeomans, who has been contracted to consult to the company.

"Over the past few years New Horizons Southern Africa has experienced significant organic growth," said Mrs Yeomans. "But additional investment was needed to take full advantage of the increasing demand for quality computer skills training.

"We are delighted that the UK group, which has made such a tremendous success of New Horizons there, has recognised the opportunity that exists in South Africa and has elected to invest here. It is a vote of confidence in both the company and the country."
