New deputy minister for science and tech

The recent departure of Brigitte Mabandla, deputy minister of arts, science, culture and technology, to the housing portfolio has opened up a new door for little known ANC MP, Buyelwa Sonjica.

Sonjica was sworn in as deputy minister in Cape Town on Tuesday night.

She has served on a number of parliamentary portfolio committees including arts and culture, finance and trade and industry.

At the time of her appointment, Sonjica was a member of Parliament and chairperson of the parliamentary portfolio committee of water affairs and forestry in the national assembly.
