ForgeAhead has added two categories to this year`s African ICT Achievers Awards, to recognise the Young ICT Entrepreneur of the Year and the African ICT Journalist of the Year.

The new categories, officially launched this week, will become a permanent feature in the awards. There are currently nine ICT individual awards and seven ICT organisational awards, bringing the total to 16 awards. An overall winner will again be drawn in each of the two sectors: individual and organisational.

"Key individual players have also reviewed the categories from last year and the criteria attached to those categories, to ensure they are still aligned with market demands," says Dorothy Haggard, ForgeAhead sales and marketing director.

Haggard says ForgeAhead works in consultation with focus groups and key industry players to discuss whether there are any gaps in the awards line-up.

"It was decided to introduce the Young ICT Entrepreneur Award because we believe the youth entrepreneur will be a different person from an innovator, creator or developer.

"The African award for an ICT journalist will be for a journalist who looks specifically at skills, education and capacity building," she says.

Nominations for the awards are now open and can be submitted online.

This year`s African ICT Achievers awards banquet will be held at Gallagher Estate on 29 October.
