New appoints at Novell

Novell has hired Reger Levy to run the Open Platform Solutions business unit, reporting to Jeff Jaffe, executive VP and CTO, Computerworld reports. Most recently a Lucent VP in charge of delivering products from four internal start-up companies, Levy replaces David Patrick.

Bill Hewitt, senior VP and chief marketing officer, has been promoted to president of Novell Asia-Pacific, succeeding Rhonda O`Donnell, who will assume the newly created position of non-executive chairperson for Novell Asia-Pacific.

John Dragoon, VP of global field marketing for the company, will assume Hewitt`s position. All three report to Ron Hovsepian, president and COO of Novell.

Hitachi Data Systems (HDS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi announced the appointment of Dave Roberson as president and chief executive officer, the company reports.

Roberson currently serves as president and COO of HDS and succeeds Shinjiro Iwata as CEO. Iwata will take on the role of chief marketing officer for Hitachi`s strategic business segment - the Information and Telecommunications Systems Group.

Minoru Kosuge, former division president of Hitachi`s Disk Array Systems Division, has been promoted to COO of HDS from his current position as executive VP and chief storage architect. These organisational changes will be effective on 1 April.

Ants Software announced the establishment of the Ants Technical Advisory Board, and appointed Don Haderle as founding member.

Recognised as the "father of IBM`s DB2" database, Haderle will work closely with Ants and future board members to provide guidance on product strategy and requirements, offer insights into customer needs and assist Ants in building strategic technology and distribution alliances, according to a company statement.

Haderle joined IBM in 1968 as a software developer, and eventually rose to lead the technical team that created IBM`s premier relational database management system, DB2, from the 1970s through the early 1990s. Haderle secured more than 50 patents and disclosures across all areas of database management, and led the efforts to create and deploy the technology in the market.
