Navision and Oracle partnered to launch Navision`s e-business solution, Axapta, at a high-profile event recently. Approximately 230 guests attended the launch which was presented on a 3D screen at the Hyde Park Imax Theatre in Sandton.

Navision Axapta is built for the Internet where employees and trading partners can connect via any online device. Its unique design, one database, one toolbox, one business logic, one source code, means customisations and upgrades are easy to make and maintenance costs are low. Axapta is a total ERP solution for e-business, customer relationship management, human resource management or financial management.

Prior to its launch, Navision conducted benchmark tests on Oracle`s database, and clocked a record 315 000 completed sales orders in an hour, with 3 600 users attached. The average response time was 0.08 seconds.

"With these response rates large-scale applications can run smoothly across any enterprise over the Internet," says Oracle Channel Manager Jacqui Gogele. "It is also ideal for deploying in an ASP environment.

"Oracle`s relationship with Navision is in line with our commitment to independent software vendors (ISVs) to provide their applications with a platform which is scalable, secure and stable," Gogele continues. "Oracle is the database of choice for the majority of South African large organisations, and its ability to run on 20 operating systems gives organisations freedom of choice when it comes to hardware and operating technology."

According to Navision South Africa managing director Keith Mullan, Navision Axapta has already made inroads into the local market. "Axapta`s design principal of one business logic, one database, one source code and one tool provides users with several key benefits. Besides reduced development and maintenance costs, users are assured that their data will never become redundant. As with any ASP offering, the application is easy to upgrade, and emerging technologies like WAP and XML are easy to harness. Additionally, the product makes for seamless integration into all parts of the business."
