Mobile network operator MTN plans to introduce high-end dual-SIM smartphones to the South African market.
The dual-SIM smartphones will cater for the increasing number of customers who have multiple SIM cards, says MTN.
According to the telecoms company, the first dual-SIM smartphone on offer is the Huawei Mate S, which will be available effective immediately.
Larry Annetts, sales and marketing executive at MTN, says the Mate S is a much-awaited addition to MTN's range of smart devices and it will be handy for customers who are travelling.
"The decision to range this smartphone is in response to the feedback we have received from our customers for a high-end smartphone that caters to their usage patterns. Having operations across Africa and the Middle East, we are acutely aware of behavioural patterns across different markets.
"Our customers have requested a handset they can use when travelling, by having access to a local SIM card when they are out of the country while they still retain their primary SIM card. The decision to range this versatile device gives expression to our vision of offering a distinct customer experience."
Annetts concludes: "MTN is cognisant of the importance of retaining a number over a period of time and many of our customers have dual SIMs which is often a work number and their personal number. The Huawei Mate S caters to those customers who wish to retain both numbers without the burden of having to carry two devices."
