Some MTN customers are this morning experiencing a data outage after an upgrade on the MTN network led to interrupted data services.
"MTN undertook an upgrade on a section of its network last night. A fault developed during the upgrade that has resulted in an interruption in data services on the network node in Randburg [Gauteng] and Newlands, Cape Town," Jacqui O'Sullivan, corporate affairs executive at MTN SA told ITWeb via email.
"Many customers that were affected by the data outage earlier this morning, are now up and running we are redirecting traffic away from the faulty nodes to further limit the impact on our customers, while we complete the repairs. We expect the final batch of repairs to be concluded by 11:30 this morning," she added.
The Web site Down Detector showed over 350 downtime reports from MTN customers since around 6am this morning. The reports came from across Gauteng, the Western Cape, the Eastern Cape and Kwa-Zulu Natal.
"We sincerely apologise for this fault and the resulting inconvenience to our customers. These repairs are our absolute priority this morning, to make sure we get the remainder of our affected customers back online, as quickly as possible," O'Sullivan said.
