MTN has launched a campaign it says is designed to get prepaid customers to start using their dormant SIM cards, by rewarding them with airtime.

Brian Gouldie, MTN SA chief marketing officer, says MTN is giving PayAsYouGo customers, who use their dormant SIM cards, R10 airtime.

MTN classifies a dormant SIM card as one that has not been used for more than 31 days. To benefit from this promotion, says the company, a customer needs to put the old SIM back into a mobile phone, use the reward that is waiting for him or her, and then keep the SIM in the phone.

"And because MTN is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the organisation will give more back. So customers should keep using their old SIM cards to receive future surprises that will be offered throughout the year," says Gouldie.

This follows the launch of PayAsYouGo value bundles in R7, R12, and R17 denominations, introduced two weeks ago. MTN says these were designed to provide prepaid customers with flexibility when it comes to managing their cellphone budgets.
