Microsoft SA has appointed Joshua Motjuwadi as its new public sector director, with effect from 15 January.
Motjuwadi is a former Telkom managing executive responsible for directing, managing and controlling information system services within Telkom.
He takes the reins from Ashley de Klerk, who left Microsoft late last year to join AltX-listed DVT as COO and MD of DVT Gauteng.
Mutjuwadi has 29 years' experience in the ICT field, including stints in retail, consulting and financial services. Prior to joining Telkom as managing executive of IT services, he served Standard Bank as a director at Stanbic Africa IT.
Microsoft SA MD Pfungwa Serima says Motjuwadi's appointment underlines Microsoft's commitment to working with government across key initiatives like improving service delivery, skills development and broadening digital inclusion.
"Microsoft will be looking to Joshua to lead a journey of technology-expanding opportunities for the millions of people without access to IT in SA," he says.
From expanding access to information, education and healthcare, to increasing the collective power of individuals, Microsoft technologies have an important role to play in creating a thriving, competitive nation, he says.
